PARACHUTING
PAIR
Tuesday 20th January 1998
will be a day to remember for the Parachuting
Pair of M.Y.P.C. That was the day the
President, PETER BIRCH and TONY SANSOM, of
HOUNSLOW PHAB CLUB, joined forces for a Parachute
jump at Headcorn in Kent.

The
event was the celebratory exit of Peter's
retirement as Chief Executive of Abbey National
plc. and because of his 20 years involvement with
M.A.B.C and M.Y.P.C he asked to be accompanied by
a member of one of our clubs. Hounslow PHAB
Club offered and Tony Sansom, who has cerebral
palsy, accepted the opportunity with glee.
Those who took part in our Sponsored Walk last
October may remember Tony passing them on the
canal towpath on his tricycle |

For
the spectators, it was a thrill to see the pair
evacuate the plane at 10,250 feet and drift down
to earth in the cold January air to land at the
approved spot Both were excited by their
experience and commented on the -30 degree
temperature as they left the aircraft Tony's face
was a picture of pleasure and satisfaction from
responding to the challenge and adding another
new experience to his portfolio. He now has
his own video of the occasion as a reminder of an
outstanding adventure |

It
is hoped the Jump by the pair will bring in lots
of sponsorship money from clubs and M.Y.P.C. and
that it will entice friends and colleagues of
Peter Birch to contribute liberally to his
Farewell Appeal. Tony will be attending the
Farewell Party at Stationers Hall to help to
encourage substantial donations. |
